If you are going deep into Buddhism, the main purpose of learning has always been – to point out the characteristics of afflictions, to know to eliminate afflictions, and thus to elevate yourself step by step. Conceptions should go side by side with practice. After understanding the conceptions, afflictions can be eliminated instantly. Only when the fierce afflictions are disciplined, you can truly understand the conceptions of Dharma. – Master Jih Chang
