In Lamrim Chenmo, Master Tsong Khapa uses The Three Principal Paths – first Renunciation, then Bodhicitta and finally Emptiness. For example, when a disciple wants to seek for reality, he first has to find a Guru with the defining characteristics. He also needs to have the defining characteristics as a disciple. Only when the Guru and disciple are associated with each other can the initial perception to be associated with the Guru arise so that the disciple can gain later perceptions. All these should come in a complete and clear sequence taught by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in thousand of scriptures.

There is a perception in His mind. That is, He never has infatuated opinions on anything. His viewpoints are clear, correct, and accurate – without any slightest mistake. The meaning of desire to cultivate wholesome factors is that you must want to learn and must do it happily. Be careful! This is not a requirement but how you truly feel instead – you want to learn, feel happy to learn and feel no burden. You not only feel no burden at all but, by learning Lamrim, are no longer so heavy-laden with those moods at work, in life, in personal relationship or whatever you feel bad about but cannot describe. In this case, I still want to say – we will want to listen to Dharma again joyfully. This mentality is the fundament of diligence since the definition of diligence is "perseverance in virtue" It is to be perseverant in virtue, and the word "perseverance" also means "joyfulness".
